lovey brock

I’m Lovey Brock. I’m a Haida. My dad was a Haida and my mom was a Gypsy. Their names were Frank and Ruby Young. I’m a Double-fin Killer Whale and I’m from the Yeltatzie family. The Yeltatzie’s are from B.C. My dad’s family came from Haida Gwaii. My mom was born in Montreal, Quebec. She traveled all around the world with her grandparents telling fortunes. They came to Ketchikan and she met my dad: she fell in love and ran away and married him. I have four sisters and one brother. I was born in Craig on May 17, 1945. Except for a couple years in Washington, I’ve lived in Wrangell since I was six months old. I’m on the Wrangell Cooperative Association board and I have been for about 15 years. I’m on the SEARHC board (Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium), and I have been for 14 years. I’m also on the board of the Southeast Alaska Indigenous Transboundary Commission.

My interest is health care…I’m beginning to realize that this is all connected: health care, the river, having a mine break and come into our waters, it’s all connected.
