“Juneau Voices” story box
Juneau Voices is a series of location-specific, place-based sound installations, featuring stories and memories told by Juneau residents who lived them. Each sound installation is linked to a sign downtown. Experienced as a sequential journey, they add up to a walk through the past and a spotlight on untold histories from Dzantikʼihéeni, Juneau. In this story box, you’ll find portraits of people across Juneau who were part of the extensive community outreach campaign to create Juneau Voices, facilitated by artists Ryan Conarro and Lillian Petershoare. These Juneauites shared memories and lived experiences in story circles, one-on-one interviews, and visits to community gatherings and partner organizations.
A complete archive of unedited interviews for Juneau Voices is available through the Juneau Public Library, Goldbelt Heritage Foundation, and KTOO Public Media.
